Homemade Granola Bars

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp. brown sugar

2 eggs

1/2 cup quick cooking oats

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup all purpose flour

1/4 cup wheat germ

2 tsp. grated orange rind

1 cup sliced or slivered almonds

1/4 cup dried cherries or raisins

1/3 cup flaked coconut

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Cream butter with brown sugar until soft. beat in eggs, then stir in remaining ingredients. Pat into a 9 inch square pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and cut into bars. Wrap in foil or plastic wrap and pack in your backpack .
